These slides are from an idea by my colleague, Yianni, and further refined by our English Faculty. We shared this presentation on the ETA 2017 Re-imagining English Annual Conference website which can only be accessed by members.
When providing feedback for Stage 6 students, we typically include the phrase ‘lacked analysis’ as many write in a descriptive way and discuss what the text is about. Analysis takes practice and a sound understanding of different language features or techniques or literary devices. In short, knowledge of the metalanguage of English is important is sharing how meaning is made within a text.
We continue to see improvement in the sophistication of student responses.
