In my Year 7 class, we have been considering narrative structure in preparation for a speech task where students share details about their life. This idea came from reading John Agard’s Book –see earlier post.
One writing activity was the popular 50 word story. Here is the opening chapter of my life’s book:
The Day of My Birth
It rained. Heavily. Non-stop.
Mum whispered “It’s time”. Dad reversed the Ford Prefect onto the puddled road.
At the maternity ward, a doctor shook his head. “The cord is caught around the baby’s neck”.
Dad had to choose: who should live? We both survived – bloody and bruised.
47 words.
