There are many different ways to take effective notes from texts.
The table format I highly recommend allows less able students to record information from a text, class discussion or by using their own ideas and then follow the table from to right and make cohesive analytical sentences. This means senior students can be rewarded with suitable marks because they actually explain the language techniques identified by making a direct link to the audience effect – explaining the what, how and why.
I makes sense when it becomes a regular activity, and is especially effective for film and music video. Read more (and see some examples) on my Notetaking page.
